This is an informative video about the NLAW next generation anti tank system. It uses a predictive guidance system to track enemy tanks and lock onto them. LAW, developed by Sweden’s Saab, weighs 27 pounds and has a combat range of 65 to 2,600 feet. Saab claims NLAW can “defeat any modern main battle tank.” Each costs around $40.000 but that is nowhere near as expensive as the tanks they are fired at.
Drone footage recorded in the area of Bovary located northeast of Kyiv shows an NLAW initiated point blank ambush on a Russian tank unit in the middle of a road. From the footage it seems a Ukrainian forward infantry element took position in and around the wood left west of the Russian armor column and started to engage the vehicles from close range with anti-tank weapons such as the NLAW, some RPG variants and small arms fire. Russian forces reacted with counterfire from their tanks and infantry fighting vehicles and quickly began to disperse after the first shoots. The ambush occured on the E95 about 10km north of Bovary and about 5km north from Skybyn, the place where Ukrainian forces recently released another drone video that showed the retreat of the 6th Russian Tank Regiment from the 90. Tank Division after accurate artillery, anti-tank and tank fire by Ukrainian troops. It is possible that this video is from the same battle but since we can not confirm this it also can be that this is from another Russian attempt to close in on Kyiv via Bovary. In the end of the video we deliver some more context to the footage so make sure to watch the video to the end. An intense video from Mariupol shows a Russian T-72 tank surviving a close Ukrainian NLAW ambush during combat in Mariupol. It seems the ambush failed because the NLAW was fired from a to close range from the tank. Normally NLAW missiles have an arming range of about 20m for safety reasons. What we get from the footage is that the missile was fired from a to short distance and the missile had no time to arm. Only the fuel went off but the warhead did not explode. The tank started to burn after the hit but was still intact. The crewmembers of the T-72 only had minor injuries and went back to action after a day long break from the fighting. There was an interview with one of the tankers released in Russian. To add more context we tried to translate it and included it to the video. With the start of the war in Ukraine, strange explosions of Russian tanks began to appear on the Internet. They explode as if from within, flashing like fireworks. The explosion is so strong that the tank's turret flies many meters into the air. The turret of a Russian tank, together with a cannon, weighs about 2 tons. But it flies up like an empty beer can. Imagine how powerful this explosion is. Falling back to the asphalt, the tank turret crashes into it like in butter. What happens to Russian tanks, and why do they explode like that? I spent time and found out that such explosions happen for two reasons. First, Russian tanks have several vulnerabilities in their design. Secondly, this happens when they are properly exposed to the target weapon. A Russian tank can be destroyed either with a Javelin or NLAW anti-tank missile or with a regular grenade if dropped directly into a hole on the turret. Now I will explain to you how it works. We will look at both examples on real documented video footage. The first big problem with Russian tanks is how to store ammunition. They are placed in a circle inside the turret. The compartment holds 40 shells. As seen in this scheme, tankers actually sit on them. We can say that they are sitting on a powder keg. See how ammunition is placed in the Leopard and Abrams tanks. The scheme shows that the ammunition is placed in the rear of the tower in a specially protected capsule. In the event of an explosion of ammunition, the blast wave takes them up without hitting the crew. In Russian tanks, the crew will be lifted into the air along with exploding ammunition. Secondly, there are hatches and openings in the turret of Russian tanks through which the cumulative fire jet from the NLAW missile penetrates the inside of the tank. But more on that later. And you can even drop a grenade from a drone into an open hatch. And the tank is done!

Ukrainian NLAW Anti-Tank Missile Destroyed 20 Russian Tanks in Counterattack near Kherson. According to U.K. Defense Secretary Ben Wallace, the Ministry of Defense had signed a deal to start replenishing missile stocks run down by the supply of weapons to Ukraine. Within the contract, British Army will receive 500 NLAW anti-tank weapons in 2023. Com isso, fez-se necessário desenvolver uma arma capaz de retirar a vantagem tática dos carros de combate e restaurar o equilíbrio de poder para as defesas. A Arma Anticarro Leve de Próxima Geração (Next Generation Light Anti-Tank Weapon ou NLAW, da sigla em inglês) é essencial nestes casos. O sistema foi originalmente desenvolvido para a Suécia e Grã-Bretanha e cumpre os requisitos para um moderno sistema anti-tanque de armas em operações internacionais, bem como para a defesa nacional. O sistema NLAW combina a simplicidade das armas leves anti-blindagem com as vantagens dos sistemas de mísseis guiados. Com essa arma portátil e descartável após o disparo, um único soldado pode destruir um tanque de batalha principal pesadamente protegido (MBT) com apenas um tiro. O soldado pode, imediatamente após a detecção de alvo, independentemente da atitude, carregar a arma ao ombro e realizar o engajamento (lock-on) antes do lançamento. Pesando apenas 12,5 kg, o NLAW possui um sistema portátil de lançamento do ombro que alia mobilidade, flexibilidade e destrutividade. Com esse sistema, não é necessário um pelotão para atacar carros de combate, pode-se treinar um soldado comum para usá-lo em apenas uma hora. Assim, vários soldados equipados com NLAW em todo o ambiente podem ficar apenas esperando por um carro de combate para engajá-lo e destruí-lo (arma de emboscada). Um dos maiores desafios que as armas anticarro enfrentam em ambientes complexos é atingir o alvo em meio a obstáculos como outros veículos, fontes de calor e linhas de energia. Ao contrário de outras armas anticarros, o NLAW não depende de um sistema ativo de busca. Ao invés disso, a solução usa a segmentação de linha de visão prevista, incorporando sensores magnéticos e ópticos para viajar rapidamente até o local de destino. O operador simplesmente rastreia o alvo por alguns segundos antes de disparar e a solução faz o resto.
